Dr. Shira A. Oretzky is a licensed clinical psychologist and sport psychologist whose career has spanned a variety of academic, intensive outpatient, and private clinical settings. She has worked at San Diego State University (SDSU), Counseling & Psychological Services for over a decade and is a liaison to SDSU Athletics. Dr. Oretzky has a private practice in Del Mar, California primarily focused on working with children, adolescents, and young adults. Dr. Oretzky specializes in working with high school, collegiate, elite, and professional athletes.
Her research on how yoga can improve depression, anxiety, and physical symptoms in young adults naturally led her to incorporate psychophysiology and a mind-body approach in her practice. Her training in sport psychology and work with athletes inspired Dr. Oretzky to co-found MindEdge, a sport and performance consulting company. She is on the Board of Directors for the San Diego Psychological Association (SDPA) and the co-chair of the SDPA Sport Psychology Committee. She is a member of the San Diego Sport Psychology Associates and Association for Applied Sport Psychology, through which she is currently completing certification. She has presented at various conferences and symposia including the American Psychological Association and her work has been featured in publication.
In addition to her local pursuits, Dr. Oretzky sailed around the world as a psychologist on Semester at Sea, a multi-country study abroad program for college students. She has lived and worked in Central America and has traveled extensively throughout South America, Africa, Europe, and Asia. This international experience brings a unique multicultural perspective to her work.
